Opportunity in India

Since I have graduated from the University of Florida last month, I have spent most of my time looking for and applying for jobs in the Water Resources Engineering field. Also since graduation, I was offered the opportunity to spend a couple weeks serving on a project trip with Engineering Ministries International (EMI) in India. I spent this past summer interning with EMI in the Colorado Springs office and went on a project trip to Kenya for three weeks. EMI is a Christian development organization made up of architects, engineers, and design professionals who donate their skills to help children and families around the world step out of poverty and into a world of hope.

From January 29th through February 15th, I will be serving with EMI in India and will be part of a small team of engineers and architects that will help to design an anti-trafficking center in Kolkata. We will spend five days at the project site, and then I will spend the remainder of my time working on the project report in the Delhi office. I am so excited that God has given me the opportunity to combat human trafficking and the sex industry using my engineering skills.

The anti-trafficking center will be a community health and business development center that addresses the issues of trafficking in the impoverished villages of West Bengal, India, and provides a location for organizations to network for prevention and community based aftercare.

It hopes to offer:
  • A women’s and children’s health clinic once a month
  • A center for the anti-trafficking awareness and value of the girl child campaign
  •  A training base for community health and other anti-trafficking organizations to use for special events
  • A work place for one or more freedom businesses
  • A counseling base
  • A training location for women at risk or those who are trafficking survivors.

God calls us to serve Him using whatever gifts and talents he has given us. Please consider praying for me and my team and donating to help me get to India. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at lindsey.a.marks@gmail.com or call me at 904-707-0402.

Praying:
My team and I will need prayer for safety during travel and ease of entering India, being able to adequately assess the site while in Kolkata, and getting the work finished. Pray also that God would prepare our hearts for the trip and that He would strengthen us during our time there.

Donating:
My project trip will cost $2,540, which includes airfare, in-country travel costs, and the project trip fee. If you are interested in helping me get to India, you can donate online at: https://emisecure.org/donate.html. You can donate up until I return from India on February 15th!
Click Donate Now and then Give Now to get to the giving page. In the first drop down, select "Project Trip Volunteers." Another drop down will appear, and select "Other" and type 8220 as the project number for my trip. In the next box "Other Category and/or Volunteer's name," type Lindsey Marks.

If you would rather send in a check to the EMI office, email me (lindsey.a.marks@gmail.com) your address, and I will be happy to send an envelope and response card for your use.
